Pardon the mess

And also the poor photo quality. I'll be taking high-class photos soon. In the meantime, my laptop must do. I hope all the paint can dry within the next few days, so I can finish construction and submit for the All-Student Exhibition. May I introduce to you, my grandpa:

I've been painting the hands today mostly and I'm extremely pleased with how they're turning out. They look pretty real, which is creepy but cool.

  1. Hey Heather,

I'm liking the hands! You seem to be giving them the same level of detail, and increased size as the heads, so you're making the hands very significant. Have you thought about the position the hands are in? Right now they are relaxed and open. But depending on where and how they are positioned they will give the viewer a lot more information. Are there hand gestures that are characteristic of your grandfather?

Also for the future, think about how two dolls can interact with each other through the hands. I don't think they should be as surreal as the first sketches you showed. Now I think they need some subtlety. But take a lot of care with the hands. If a doll will have it's hand on anothers shoulder, make it in a very realistic pose. Look at how the hand rests on a shoulder in real life. I think that plus the detailed identities of the faces will have a strong emotional response in the end.
